CNBC actually started around 1980 as a low budget satellite program network, showing old movies and some programs. Later, its name changed to Tempo Television. Later on, in April 1989, the channel relaunched by NBC under the guidance of Tom Rogers, CNBC operated by NBC and Cablevision as a 50-50 partnership. CNBC had to face a lot of difficulties getting cable carriage.
