On September 15, 1962, WHAM ABC 13 News went on the air at 4 p.m. as WORK. It stands for “We’re OK”. From the beginning of its inception, it has always been associated with ABC News. Rochester Educational Television Association was the channel’s original regional owner. The rest of the shareholders were the Genesee Valley Television Company, Star TV, Inc., Community Telecasting, Inc., Heritage Radio and Television Telecasting Company, Main Telecasting Company, Federal Telecasting Systems, Citizens Television Corporation Inc., Later in March 1970, Flower City purchased the channel from its partners. After sometime Post Corporation bought the channel from Flower City. It was a media company based in the Fox Cities region of Wisconsin in 1977. In 1984, George N. Gillett Jr. purchased the Post Corporation channels relocating it into Gillett Holdings, Inc. In 1991, the Hughes Telecasting Partners bought the channel. Later in the run, in 1995, Hughes auctioned WOKR to Guy Gannett Communications.
