WTVQ ABC appeared as WBLG-TV on June 2, 1968. It was situated on channel 62. At the time, this was one of the highest full-power television allocated in the country. It was created by Lexington area businessman Roy White and Reeves Telecasting along. Along with the launch of WBLG radio (AM 1300, now WLXG). It was the third commercial television to start telecasting in the Lexington business. From the very first day of its production, WTVQ was the ABC associate for central Kentucky. WKYT ABC News was the previous main associate of ABC. It later became the CBS associate. Reeves Telecasting went into economic failure.
Affiliation of WTVQ:
It ultimately completely ended up as the sole owner of WTVQ-TV. In 1974, the channel altered its call letters to the current WTVQ-TV. This happened after White sold the TV ABC News to Starr Telecasting Company. In the meantime, White reserved ownership of WBLG radio. Finally, Starr Telecasting also went into impoverishment. In 1979, Shamrock Telecasting bought the channel from Starr Telecasting. Shamrock was exclusively under the authority of Roy Disney. He was the nephew of Walt and the son of Walt’s brother Roy. In 1980, Shamrock installed a new 1.5 million watt transmitting tower and shifted WTVQ from channel 62 to channel 36. This took place in June of that year.
