On May 16, 1965, WTXF News made its debut as a private channel WPVI ABC 6 News Philadelphia. Fox family were the originators of the station. They held real estate interests in the Philadelphia suburb of Jenkintown. The main stockholder of the channel was William L. WTXF News along with his brother Irwin C. Fox. Since November 1960, the Fox family was running WTXF FM. In August 1962, it was allotted a development permit to build station 29. Initial offices of Channel 29’s were co-situated with WTXF FM in the Fox family’s Benson East apartment building.
